The Haitian Multi-Service Center (HMSC) at Catholic Charities Yawkey Center is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to tutor adult learners in math! This is a rewarding opportunity to directly impact the lives of adult learners as they pursue their educational and career goals. The program operates on Boston Public Schools schedule for holidays and breaks.
Requirements:
- Attend math classes to assist the Math Instructor and learn strategies for supporting adult learners in math.
- Meet with Math Instructor at certain intervals for training, support, and to check in on student progress.
- Work with one or more students outside class weekly to support their math learning
- during class activities.
Qualifications:
- Availability during school hours (Tuesday and/or Thursday from 9:00-11:00 AM.)
- Reliability and commitment to a consistent schedule.
- Minimum commitment of 3 hours per week for at least 6 months.
- Comfort with math content up to a high school level.
- Patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Willingness to learn strategies and skills to support adult learners with disabilities or diverse learning needs.
- Experience working with adult learners or in an educational setting is desirable, but not required.
